Personal
experience breaking away from the practice of usury becomes part of the
wisdom of the journey of life that we often reflect on. The way to
escape from usury will certainly be different for everyone.
Follow the Islamic Studies
From various studies of Ustadz Khalid Basalamah and Ustadz Erwandi Tarmizi, I began to learn about usury. I met with the Xbank Indonesia Instagram account. Although the heart is often hot and thick
because it feels insinuated, I have continued to follow his account until now.
It
turns out that the practice of usury occurs in many banking practices
(bank interest, credit cards, deposits, mortgages, and others), buying
and selling commodities of usury (gold, silver, wheat, ya'ir, dates, and
salt), digital money (e-money, gopay to gofood), and others. I
myself have never followed any insurance (including goods insurance
when shopping online) except BPJS, which is required by the government.
Leave Riba
Riba Commoditi
For Muslims, start with understanding the usury commodities such as gold,
silver, wheat, sharia, dates, and salt. In the purchase of usury
commodities, the payment must be cash. The practice that is often done
is gold installments. Shari'ahly, the purchase of gold must be in cash and should
not be initiated.
Or
when we do a gold exchange transaction, it is not allowed to exchange
gold by 10 grams and directly receive gold by 50 grams on the grounds of
exchange. The truth is we sell first the 10 grams of gold we have, and with the
money is the sale, we buy 50 grams of gold.
Digital Money or e-money
I
no longer use e-money on online Ojeg payments. In sharia, deposit money
is our money that is borrowed by the online ojek to be managed so that
the provision of discounts or promos because we have a deposit is
considered the benefits received because we provide loans.
Credit Card
The
second step stops the credit card after completing the 0% installment
that I had taken. Although I was never late in paying and only used 0% installment payments, Ustadz Erwandi thought credit cards included
usury because additional or late penalties in loans are included in the
practice of usury.
Without Riba Credit
Credit is basically halal as long as it meets the rules of Shari'ah. After
learning the science of usury, the purchase of a house through
installments with a mortgage scheme (even an Islamic mortgage) was also
able to enter into the practice of usury.
Why riba?
Inscribed
from the YouTube channel Al Bahjah with Buya Yahya and Sahabat Salafi
with Ustadz Erwandi, explaining this error occurred when the Islamic bank gave us some money through the financing system when we applied for home financing.
Banks should give us a house instead of giving us money.
In
shariat, we must directly pay the money to buy a house to the developer,
as the owner of a house or bank of sharia buys in advance the house
owned by the developer and can sell it back to us even though the price
is multiplied.
In
practice, we do not have enough money to buy a house directly from the
developer, so we ask the Islamic bank to finance it. Banks certainly provide
loans with interest; thismeans including usury loans. Similarly, the fine when we are late paying is a feature of usury because in the debt of debt, there should be no overpayment.
Understand about pawns
Not
only do I learn through online studies, but I also often discuss with
friends. From the results of the discussion, it turns out that the mortgage system
that I occupy is included in the practice of usury. Shari'a: I am not
allowed to occupy a house owned by a money borrower because this means I
receive benefits (home) from the loan agreement. Even if I lend money
with the house as collateral, then the house should still be occupied by
the owner.
Although
I know the law of origin of this pawn house, I do not have the courage
to get out of the house. One reason is because I am not ready if I have
to spend money to pay the contract every year. Income that is still not
much plus still bears the needs of my mother's and sister's family makes me
close my ears when friends discuss this problem.
Please help God
Always
pray for God’s help so that God opens my heart and opens my way to get
out of usury. And that moment happened suddenly. I don’t know where the idea came from; my three close friends constantly remind me if the pawn
house includes usury and ask when I intend to find a ‘halal’ house.
Friends
encourage God to make it easy for His servants who want to obey His
command. God will give you the way away from usury as well as his
provision. Eventually I began to be determined to find another house.
I always repeat this encouragement sentence:
Owning a house is not mandatory but avoiding usury is mandatory. Insulating the house is innocent but doing the practice of usury is sinful
Qodarullah,
while on duty, I was in pairs with a senior employee. I told you when I
was looking for a rented house because I intend to leave the pawn house,
which turned out to be in sharia, which is included in the practice of usury.
Biidznillah,
a few days later he offered his house that had been empty for a
long time at half the price of Rp. 6 million and can be paid in
installments as I can.
I
also handed back the pawn house to the owner. Actually, he was a little
afraid because, in habit, the owner of the house had to return the money
he borrowed for Rp. 20 million. But I stated that I would not ask for
the money back and even intend to give a short, short-money contract for 9 years of living in a pawn house.
The
owner of the house refused my offer and expressed gratitude that I had
not asked for a penny and could have a house that had been pawned for a
dozen years.
Intent and Restelability
At
this time I was introduced to Zauji, a man standing in the way of
staying away from the practice of usury. Since the beginning, the
introduction of Zauji has indeed been entrepreneurial buying and selling. I
was thrown out. Why not join online OJG only, which in fact is easier? Zauji answered steadily if he hesitated to join because sometimes there is still an element of usury in his transaction.
Since I still had a loan installment debt to the bank, after marriage, Zauji helped me pay off the loan. At first I refused Zauji’s help because I was still able to make installments every month for the next 3 years.
But Zauji said:
Paying installments every month for 3 years is indeed able. But, can I also bear the sins of usury for the next 3 years?😓
Alhamdulillah,
even though at the beginning of marriage our balance is almost zero, three
months later we both can pay off the rest of the installments, which is
nominally more than Rp. 50 million. A few months later, Zauji signed up for it from the savings we had. We are also still installing Rp. 50 million for the mother, who paid it off a year later.
Release a sense of the gang
At the beginning of marriage, because we were still struggling to pay off all
the debts, we were both still faithfully riding our favorite motorcycles named 'Shamans' everywhere. It's a lot of Zauji pitying me because of the invincible 'shaman' display full of duct tape filling here and there.
But I assure you, Zauji, that I don’t feel ashamed or prestigious.
Even
when Zauji and I bought goods with discounted capital (mostly) or second-hand.
For us, the most important thing is to live quietly without usury
installments, even though life is as it is with a frugal way of life in order to save.
Many
friends who have already escaped from usury. Willing and not prestigious
to stay in the contract for a dozen years despite the status of civil
servants, willing to go everywhere riding angkot because they do not
want to have car usury credit. Even my cousin resigned as a manager in a leasing company to quit the world of ribawi and pioneer the groan stall.
Please forgive
RIBA
is the only sin for which Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala fights the culprit.
Riba is a great sin for which God threatens eternal hell for the one who
repeats it.
Although
it is hard, repent nasuha, straighten the intention, improve the
obligatory prayer, and add the practice of sunnah, almarty, fasting, and
practice. Focus on finding God.
Sometimes we
are reluctant and look for a thousand reasons to keep doing ribawi
practices. Sometimes we hesitate to leave usury, as if without usury, all
the joints of our lives will not be able to walk. Sometimes we think
there is no other way to a result without having to involve usury.
Even
in banking transactions, many are not categorized as ribawi
transactions. We can choose Islamic bank savings services without
sharing the proceeds every month. We can also choose a goal without
having to involve usury but need patience and a long time.
Sometimes we often tell if we need a 'rill' solution to pay off usury debts such as help or people who are willing to spend funds to cover all our ribawi practices that we live as if the call to approach to Allah is not a 'rill' and concrete solution.
“Whoever
fears Allah, He will make for him a way out. And gave him sustenance from a direction that he did not expect (QS. Ath Tholaq: 2-3)."
Refuse to leave the practice of usury that is lived and take the path to his pleasure with determination. He will approach God, and God will solve our problems in His way. God will move good people closer to us without us asking.
We
never expected that the way away from usury was beautiful. How God makes
things easier, giving way from an unexpected direction. For Menong’s
friends who intend to escape from usury, Yuks intends with all his
heart. May Allah strengthen our hearts to be faithful. Aamiin.
