Remembering Garut, we will also be reminded of the orange sheep that became iconic and famous for its distinctive shape. Garut sheep have an advantage that no sheep species have in other places, namely ears and tails. Grass sheep have the shape of a cass for or rickshaw (rapes) and tails of beutut (small like a rat tail) or bagong (small like a piggy bank). This is the genetic advantage that the sheep species do not have elsewhere, so the Great Basin is found to be the best source of livestock genetics.
Did you know that Menong’s friends, the uniqueness of this Garut sheep, was even etched in the relief of Sewu Temple in the Prambanan Temple Complex, which is thought to have been built in the mid-7th century AD in the form of a sculpture of a pair of sheep facing each other or clashing in the middle of the Kalpatu tree? Amazing, isn't it!!
Souvenirs Garut
The first favorite souvenir falls on the dorodok also known as beef skin crackers. I also remember the song that I have known since childhood.
Dorokdok kerupuk kulit. Ngajedog teu boga duit
'Dorokdok' means skin crackers, ' ngajedog' means silence (Sundanese is very rude level, so don't say yaaa)
At first glance this dorokdok is similar to rambak. What is the difference between dorokdok with rambak ?
Dorokdok
is made from the inside of the cowhide that is cleaned, boiled until it
expands and then dried. Then the skin is seasoned and dried back to dry
before frying. Unlike the case with the rambak, made from the inside
of the buffalo skin that is boiled to bloom and then soaked in water
overnight. The skin that has been soaked and then dried and then dried
and dried again before frying.
Rambak
is usually given coriander seasoning, garlic, kunir, tamarind and brown
sugar so that it tastes sweeter than dorodok. I like dorokdok myself
rather than rambak.
The second souvenir is of course dodol garut. The term ' Even dodol is having a picnic, why aren't you?',
inspired by the famous dodol brand that has been around for decades
ago, namely dodol picnic. Now dodol is growing with a variety of new
variants such as green tea and chocolate. Dodol can easily meet Menong
friends anywhere especially near hotels in Garut.
Another souvenir that I often get from a friend was born in garut
is a burayot cake. Burayot is made from rice flour and brown sugar that
tastes similar to a cuhcur cake. Named burayot which means hanging
because it looks like something hanging.
Sustained Skin Center
When
Menong friends like skin trinkets, Sukaregang Skin Center, Garut
becomes the right place to visit. Here there are many crafts made from
sheepskin or other animals. Low price and high quality become a
guarantee of this original Garut product. Jackets, bags, purses, belts
and shoes.
Cultural variety
In addition to culinary, Garut also saves an extraordinary culture one of them is ‘Lias’.
Lais is an acrobatic attraction that has been recognized as the
Heritage of Indonesian Objects (WBTB) in 2016. This typical Garut
attraction is carried out by a professional player who plays on a rope
connected between the two bamboo rods with a height of 12 – 13 meters
which is both about 6 meters away. To be strong and stable, the bamboo
used is planted upright in the soil as deep as 6 meters. Cool, isn't
it!! Nature Tours
This
is the reason why Garut became a mandatory destination for West
Javanese and even national. Menong friends must know the natural
attractions of Darajat, Kawah Kamojang or Cipanas. Yes, Garut harbors
the charm of incredible natural beauty. It is not an exaggeration if
every weekend, the tourist area in Garut is always crowded with
visitors.
Including
people who are lazy to jostle in tourist attractions, so far visits to
Darajat Pass, hot springs and game rides only reach the front door.
Likewise with the Kamojang Crater that Zauji and I visited in the
pandemic 1.5 years ago. The rest we enjoy the beauty in relatively quiet
tourist attractions such as Eagle Conservation Center and Situ Bagendit
in the morning when still rarely visitors.
Cheap Hotels
When
visiting Garut, we usually stay at the house of cousins who have long
settled in Garut because they work in a company in the Cipanas area. But
this time, my visit and I were deliberately staying at the hotel.
Because it coincides with the long weekend,
it turns out that it is not easy to find cheap and good hotels but not
far from the Cipanas and Darajat Pass areas that become favorite tourist
destinations. I am indeed procrastinating to choose a hotel through the
application because the funds we have are not enough. Most hotels are
in the tourist area approaching Cipanas and Darajat Pass so that the
average hotel near tourist attractions set a hefty price of >700K
with minimal facilities such as without breakfast.
And
of course we have to consider the ease of finding breakfast even though
my cousin promises to pick us up for breakfast together at home. But
this idea is still hanging because the rhythm in the morning is usually
more interesting to stay 'red' in the room
The
option to find a hotel in the downtown area is also not expected. In
addition to being too far from where I served, the room price is also
too low from the 'fund rations' we have. I asked my cousins and friends
but the two gave different reviews made me even more confused.
Mepet last minute, we decided to stay in the Samarang area and no longer look for hotels with hot pool facilities and waterboom because we will only stay one night.
Hotel Star Redannte, Garut
Hotel Bintang Redannte is a 2-star hotel located on Jl. Samarang General No.42, Langensari, Kec. Tarogong Kaler, Garut Regency, West Java 44151. Unlike
other hotels in the Cipanas area that are equipped with a waterboom or
hot spring in the room, Bintang Redannte only has standard facilities
such as air conditioning, restaurants, parking and wifi.
The
cheapest room rate for the Superior Twin type (2 single bed) is only
350K at the weekday complete with a free breakfast. Deluxe with or
without balconies plus breakfast (1 double bed or 2 single bed) only
400K only.
Affordable rates even when long weekends and available pay at check-in
are considered when we set our hearts to choose Hotel Bintang Redannte.
The deluxe room without the balcony we choose can be paid at check-in
with a fee of 510K, including taxes and other charges. If Menong’s
friends pay directly through the application, of course, it will be much
cheaper around 420K.
Like
other hotels, check-in time from 14.00 WIB and check-out before 12.00
WIB. The hotel staff kindly served us and ensured that all the needs
were met.
Room
Because of the 'hunting'
many hotels before, finally we began to pay attention to the area of
rooms available in each hotel. If in the Cipanas area of 12 m2 rooms
have a rate of > 700rb but in Bintang Redannte we can be satisfied
with the room that is unusually spacious for both of us because all
rooms have an area of 24 m2.
Double
beds and padded pillows welcome us on the 3rd floor. A spacious room
plus a large enough closet can accommodate our luggage which is only one
backpack. Equipped with a TV, a work desk, one piece of chair (maybe there should be a pair of yes) and an additional table, it
feels like this room matches the price offered. At night I can take the
rest of the blogging task accompanied by Zauji who is fun watching TV.
Indeed,
there is no sofa or carpet that is a favorite of Zauji when staying at
the hotel but it feels when comparing with other rooms of our previous
survey results, we do not regret choosing Hotel Bintang Redannte as a
hotel in Garut that is cheap and good.
The hotel also provides toiletries that you can use. It's just that, because there is no shower cap, you should bring your own friends because in the deluxe room there is only a shower available.
Two
bottles of drinking water are available in rooms with two large mugs
(only it turns out to be a socket at the top so that I don't use it),
coffee, tea and sugar. Enough to enjoy the night while sipping warm tea
on the mattress.
I gave a rate of 4/5 for the Redantente Star Otel room.
Resto
Although
the Star Redannte hotel includes a cheap hotel in Garut, but the menu
served has a taste that is quite good. Breakfast is located in a dining
room that is not too spacious with a simple menu such as white rice,
fried rice, capcay, soto and bread.
When
Menong’s friends intend to order food, the price served is also cheap
for the size of the hotel price. At night, me and Zauji themselves tried
to order tenderloin steak and french fries. It tastes pretty good just
because I forgot to ask for a cooked steak, the meat served so it tastes
less ripe for me and Zauji who is tongueed in Indonesia. And don't
forget, the kitchen is not ready 24 hours so make sure Menong's friends
order food while the kitchen is still open.
I gave a rate of 3.5/5 for the breakfast menu and 4/5 for the resto menu.
Facilities
Hotel
Bintang Redannte may not be very extensive when compared to other
hotels in Garut. In general, hotel facilities do not disappoint. As a
pair of bikers, the hotel provides a motorcycle-only parking lot near a
security guard post that is protected from rain and heat. The car can
also park on the front porch or in the backyard right in front of the
row of superior rooms.
Locations
that are not far from the city center and tourist attractions and of
course without traffic jams like in a big city. Cipanas or Darajat Pass
area can be reached in less than 30 minutes. So did the souvenir center
in the Garut area of the city. Jalan Samarang itself connects the
tourist area with Garut city so that the Bintang Redante hotel can be
the right choice.
When
Menong’s friends intend to find food outside the hotel, the house or
food stalls lined up along the way. Not far from the hotel, minimarkets
can be a choice of places to shop for light.
Unfortunately, this hotel is not suitable for meeting activities because it does not have a meeting room or ballroom.
Our trip this time feels quite successful, healing
both in the middle of work fatigue. The experience of choosing a hotel
in Garut that is cheap and good seems to be memorable as well as other
references of time.
