The year 2019 became an amazing year for both of us, me and Zauji. In September 2019,
Zauji suddenly lost half his vision. Doctors state Zauji's retina
detached, commonly referred to as retinal ablation. Retinal ablation
is a condition of retinal detachment that causes narrowing or even
permanent blindness. Experience of sufferers
This retinal ablation we share with friends who are still laymen and
do not know the retinal ablation.
What is that, Ablatio Retina?
Menong's
friends must know that the retina is a layer of the nerves of the eye that
works like a film.
The light will enter the eye through the cornea, towards the pupil, and then be forwarded by the lens of the eye and focused on the retina. The
stimulation of light in the retina will be passed to the brain so that
we can see an object.
In certain conditions, disorders of the retina will result in interference with vision, one of the retinal ablations. Rhegmatogenous retinal ablation (a decrease in the quality of the body of the vitreous due to age), tractional retinal ablation (the presence of abnormally growing scarring is usually an effect of diabetes), and exudative retinal ablation (a deposition of fluid under the retina due to inflammation, severe high blood pressure, tumors, or cancer) are the 3 types of retinal ablation.
Ablasio
The retina can be caused by a high minus, as experienced by Zauji, who has had thick glasses since junior high school and often lifts heavy objects (above).
This may be what many people with high minus have: a fall (accident) or a hard clash.
Symptoms: Ablatio Retina
For
some patients, cases of retinal ablation can appear suddenly without
warning, in one eye or both. At first, Zauji seemed to see a foggy flying
in the right eye that could not be seen from the outside. When meeting
an ophthalmologist, the doctor stated that Zauji's right eye nerve was
released so that it suggested Zauji immediately check with Cicendo
Eye Hospital, which has more complete facilities, in order to immediately
get laser photocoagulation therapy
Qodarullah,
we were late to check ourselves. Like the experience of other retinal
ablation sufferers, Zauji experienced a widespread decline in how things look when you see something as if there is a curtain covering
The view, even though it is only dark, is not a part of the eye.
When arriving at the Emergency Installation (IGD) of Cicendo Eye Hospital,
the doctor who examined it stated that the retina had already been
released so that the laser was not effective. The only handling was the
scheduled operation soon.
Treatment of Ablatio Retina
As I poured in the writing about retinal detachment, retinal
detachment can be treated with one of them, with vitrectomies, taking
vitreous gel (eye-clear body) and replacing it by injecting gas bubbles
or silicon oil as a retinal replacement to remain in position.
Over
time, the gas bubbles will be lost and replaced by natural eye fluids.
If the patient uses silicone oil, silicone oil removal measures are
needed or the evacuation of silicone 3-6 months post-surgery.
Another method is scleral buckling, which is the installation of silicone belts on the sclera (outer part of the eye
white). Silicon will bring the eyeball wall closer to the retina so that
the retina returns to the original position. If the retinal ablation is
very severe, the silicon will be installed circularly around the eyes
permanently but will not block vision.
The determination of the action of handling the retinal ablation ratio is based on the case
experienced by the patient. Based on the experience of retinal ablation
sufferers, sometimes doctors will apply more than one method to deal
with retinal ablation.
Process Operations
Zauji itself has undergone 7 x retinal ablation handling operations from the installation of 1300 cSt silicon oil, silicon with the lightest viscosity, 5000 cSt silicone oil, CF6 gas injection, scleral buckling, and silicon HD, silicon with the heaviest viscosity.
Before
surgery, the patient must be ascertained to be in a healthy and COVID-19-free
state by the specialist in internal medicine and anesthesiologist by
conducting a blood, x-ray, and ECG examination.
The patient who will perform the operation must already be in Mata Cicendo Hospital, H-1 surgery and
If there are normal conditions or no specific cases, the patient can return
to the house H+1 operation. As usual, patients are required to fast 6 hours before the operation. The operation lasted less than 1 hour with a local anesthesia (part only;
only the eyes are rinsed). When there is no nausea and vomiting, the effects of anesthesia are great. The patient can eat directly after surgery.
Postoperative control is carried out a week after surgery. Before going home, nurses give some rules that patients must obey during
treatment at home.
End of Ablasio Retina Surgery
Until
now, silicon HD, the operation, was almost two years ago and still not
evacuated from Zauji's right eye. Naturally, silicon HD, which is a
foreign object, will decrease the function of the pupil so that currently
Zauji's vision slowly decreases.
Thank God a'la kulli thing
With
God’s permission, we do the maximum effort as long as the doctors, as
experts, give us a way. The series of surgeries that Zauji experienced
became an inspiration to write the story of the experience of retinal ablation sufferers.
The
experience of retinal ablation sufferers is a lesson for anyone who
experiences the same symptoms: the sooner it is treated, the more likely
the retinal ablation will be to heal.
And the most important thing is prevention in the form of regular eye
exams
for people with high risk, such as high-risk diabetics and people
with high injury activity.
