The Kadriah Palace and Radank House are my favorite tourist destinations when visiting the city of Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Its location, which is still in the urban area, is also easy to reach.
During
the COVID-19 pandemic, there really wasn't much that could be done.
It's been a long time; I haven't traveled out of town unless it's only a
short distance that can be reached by 2-wheeled vehicles with Zauji.
Apart from free and paid online courses, most of my activities are spent
at home, gardening, or visiting my parents.
One
of the activities that I did was return to my hobby of writing. After
changing a lot of settings here and there, sometimes I rewrite a number
of articles that I feel can be developed into other articles, including
notes on my trip to the equator city 2 years ago.
I had the opportunity to visit Pontianak in early 2017. Pontianak is
one of the cities I like because there are many historical tours that I
can visit, including the Equator Monument, Kadriah Palace, and Radank House.
Kadriah Palace
Kadriah
Palace is a palace built by Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie on the
banks of the Kapuas River. The construction of the Kadriyah palace is
made of ironwood, which is 245 years old. This type of wood is very
sturdy, strong, and water-resistant. This palace consists of 4 floors
with a wide porch surrounding the building in shades of yellow and
green.

Even
though it seems that it is not well maintained, this palace still has
the splendor of the past. The inside of the palace was not opened, but I
could peek through the windows. An explanation of this palace was
delivered by the palace guard. Based on information, the back of the
palace is still inhabited by the sultan's descendants.
Raden House
Radank's
house is a replica of a betang house—the longhouse of the Kanayatn
Dayak tribe. This house is used as a place for various activities,
including activities organized by the Dayak Traditional Council (DAD).
This house also received a record as the longest traditional house by
MURI, with a length of 138 meters, a width of 5 meters, and a height of 7
meters, which is supported by a sturdy pillar.
Radank's
house seems very big and spacious. Visitors can walk around, but you
have to pay attention if Menong's friends are afraid of heights.

Unfortunately, I couldn't go inside because at that time there was no activity at Rumah Radank.
For the record, there is no public transportation that can take bolangers around the city of Pontianak apart from taxis. One alternative is to
hire a motorcycle taxi service (coincidentally, Tarumanagara University
students have an application similar to online motorcycle taxis). And
don't forget to wear sunblock, glasses, and a mask to deal with the intense heat. Menong friends can visit the Kadriah Palace and Radank House at a relatively low cost.
