Yogyakarta
always had a place in my heart and Zauji's. Even though we have visited
repeatedly, it feels like we never get tired of exploring tourist
attractions near Malioboro. Alhamdulillah, in this month of Shawwal we
had the opportunity to return to visit this city of struggle.
Trans Jogja
This
time Zauji and I had more free time to explore Yogyakarta. Even so, we
went back to stay in Kaliurang to be closer to where we were on the
move. Still staying at the same guesthouse.
Because we travel by public transportation, of course, we are looking for various alternatives to enjoy our trip. The homestay we chose is located in the Kaliurang area, not far from Condongcatur Terminal. Since we had never boarded the Trans Jogya before, Zauji invited me to try it.
Delightfully
on foot from the guesthouse, the Condongcatur terminal is located north
of the Northern Ringroad-Jl Gejayan intersection. Although it only
serves as a maid terminal, this terminal is passed by many city buses of various majors. In addition, Condongcatur Terminal becomes a stopover of
Trans Jogya, a fast bus that can be a friend of Menong's choice when you
want to walk around Yogyakarta.
Available
for various majors, safe, comfortable, air-conditioned, friendly
service, and a cheap price of only Rp. 3,600 for one trip really make
Trans Yogya the most appropriate choice for nga-bolang, including looking
for tourist attractions in Jogja near Malioboro.
Since
there is no similar fleet in Bandung, we were both confused with the route and the procedure for riding Trans Jogja, including how to pay for the
bus fare. Alhamdulillah, the officer helped us kindly and advised us to
choose a 2A line only.

Officers
direct us to make payments using e-money cards. One card can be used
for multiple payouts, so I and Zauji simply use one card.
Time
has shown it is 17.00 WIB, so there is not much time we can use for a walk
to a tourist destination that has been closed on average before the
magrib arrives. Finally, we decided to just enjoy the twilight of
Yogyakarta City alone on the bus, aka we did not need to get off and stop by
everywhere.
Sitting
next to a window on a bus that is not so full of passengers, this cheap
eyewash takes almost 2 hours from Condongcatur Terminal to Yogyakarta City to Condongcatur Terminal.
Along
the way we chatted and commented on some of the places we knew,
including Malioboro and Kota Gede, which we would have visited
using taxis online. None of us brought a jacket until we were both cold
on the bus. But the trip was quite exciting even though we didn’t get off the bus at all until we returned to the Condong Chess terminal
ahead of Isha.
Fort Vredeburg
The
first destination was the Malioboro area. Time still showed07.00 WIB
when we arrived in Malioboro. We deliberately got off at the Maioboro 2
stop because I wanted to enjoy rice pes and satay near the Beringharjo
area. It seems because it is not a holiday so there is no row of sellers
on the side of the road.
Although
we have been traveling many times in Yogyakarta, our destination is
Malioboro only to Batik Shop Hamzah a.k.a. Mirota only. Because it was
still morning, we decided to keep walking towards the usual crossroads.
It turned out that on the left side of the road we saw a sturdy building
that drew the eye: Vredeburg Fortress.
Actually this fort is located not far from the cheap homestay near Malioboro that we chose in 2022, but for some reason at that time our eyes did not glance at this magnificent fortress.
Quoted
from culture.jogjakota.co.id, the fortress of Vredeburg is located at
the zero point of Yogyakarta. The fort built in 1760 is located in the
center of Yogyakarta. The fort, built in 1760, is a real form of Dutch
concern for the rapid progress of the palace. In the pretext of maintaining security, the fort that was right in front of the Yogyakarta
Palace implies the Dutch desire to control the development of the
palace at that time.
The
design proves the location of the Vredeburg fort is only a cannon fire away and right on the main road to the palace. Although the initial building
in 1760 looks simple, this building continues to develop into a sturdy
being in 1787 when the fort was completed. This fort was originally
named after the Rustenburgh fortress and was changed during the
restoration after the earthquake to Vredeburg during the reign of
Daendels.
In
the historical record written in each of its times, the story of the
Vredeburg fortress experienced many stories as a timeline and ended when it was successfully controlled by the TNI and the public who fought in the
General Attack of March 1, 1949.
This
46,574 m² fortress is now used as the Vredeburg Fortress Museum of
Yogyakarta, which is open to the public. Menong's friends can visit by
buying tickets for Rp. 3000 only. Cheap!
There
are several buildings in it, including diorama rooms that present a
collection of historical objects, film screening rooms, libraries,
exhibition halls, and others. Unfortunately, when we entered
the diorama room, the electricity flow was off so we could not enjoy
the room in the diorama to the maximum.
What
I like about the Vredeburg fortress is having the hallmarks of high
doors, windows, and ceilings. Likewise with the trench that surrounds the
fort complex. Menong's friend can imagine his function as a defense to
inhibit the movement of the opponent.
Like
the other fort I've visited, the Vredeburg fortress also looks
beautiful, clean, and quiet. I can imagine the Dutch soldiers' lives
passing by in it. Especially in the upper area of the fort, there are
several statues of fighters as if describing the struggle of the
fighters first to participate in capturing this Dutch-controlled
fortress.
It
is clear that this Vredeburg Fortress is well maintained so that it
impresses anyone who comes to visit. I also had time to photograph the
toilet of the museum, which is no less clean and well-maintained.
It
is not wrong if the Vredeburg Fortress becomes a tourist spot in Jogja
near Malioboro that can be chosen by Menong friends when visiting
Yogyakarta. Next we fold towards the next destination, whose distance is
not so far, namely the Yogyakarta Palace. How is the story? Let's see in the next carita!
