The
blogging world I started in the world in 2012. At that time, I found a
golden opportunity to learn to create a blog that finally juggled
writing media that was originally in the form of files on laptops into a
simple application of the website. Thank God, in 2020 I got acquainted
with Canva, a graphic design application. The experience of using Canva
for Education for blogging gives its own color because I can decorate
the blog that I nurture to make it look more beautiful.
Early Blogging
In
the past, I was interested in creating a blog as a medium of selling.
At that time I was eager to introduce batik cloth to friends in the
office. In the early 2000s, batik fabrics had not boomed as they
have now. Batik fabric is still rare except in traditional batik centers
that are centered in several cities such as Garut, Pekalongan, Solo, or
Cirebon.
The majority of batik is sold in the form of clothes that are used as souvenirs typical of certain areas, such as Yogya batik, where you can meet Menong friends at Beringharjo or Toko Hamzah in Malioboro.
Batik got its own place in my heart. This original Indonesian cultural heritage is the choice of my Outfit of the Day (OOTD) every day.
Working
in the suburbs is almost too far from the city center, making us not have
much choice to buy batik. Because I don’t like it when the clothes I wear are ‘uniform’ with others, so I hunt batik cloth every time and sew
it myself.
Not only that, but I also started offering batik cloth that I bought to my friends and received a positive response. For the sake of expansion of the batik fabric business, I intend to do marketing through the blog. At that time, the web that was specialized in selling was not as much as now.
It’s
just that I’ve never created a blog, and of course it takes time to
learn how to create a good blog and do product marketing through a blog.
I
also had time to learn that if the name of our blog on a free platform
(such as Blogspot or WordPress) has been widely known to people, it would
be nice if we directly registered a paid domain (like .com) so that the
blog domain name from the brand that we have pioneered is not taken over
by others.
At
that time, we had to spend a bit more to pay the Top Level Domain (TLD)
for one year. This idea was not approved by one of my friends because
the cost of the blog I spent was not necessarily comparable to the
income of batik sales. And, because I myself have not learned how to market online, of course, it is a big question mark whether my intention to sell online will be eternal or just euphoria.
Fast-stroked to Canva
Although
I can manage amateurs, it is my passion to continue to learn how to
beautify the blog I do in my spare time. Playing in the blogger dashboard area becomes quality time to live. Learning self-taught led me to meet many masters in various blogs.
In 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, the layover became the main activity during the Work From Home (WFH). Peeking at the Instagram timeline as a free time filler. Since online activities, aka online, became a star during the pandemic, I began to be addicted to taking various classes in cyberspace.
Fascinated and envious when I saw the friends of Kabis, a show showing the shanth of playing Canva that seemed amazing to me.
What the hell is Canva?
Canva is an application that can help us to design different types of designs that are made online.
If in the past we always imagined graphic design as something difficult
and complicated, unique design with Canva is easy to do for anyone, even for
Menong friends who do not have a background in science about graphic
design. Canva can also be accessed easily through smartphones and PCs/laptops.
And finally, I met Mba Mutiara, owner of Ra's house. Menong friends who are interested in learning design and writing can join in the ‘Study Room with Ra.’ Mba Mutiara is a certified Canva Certified Canva Creative (CCC) from Australia. Because I'm still a beginner, I take a basic class that has to be followed for one week. Materials provided around the introduction of Canva, text, color, photos, illustrations, and more.
Initially
I used the Android version of Canva to make the design but because the
desktop version alias on the laptop/PC is more comfortable for fingers
and eyes, until now I preferred to make the design when opening the laptop
Canva Features
I
can grace my blog screen with additional infographics with a little
touch of Canva, although it is still simple and minimalist. Reknowing
yourself is not good at making designs. Maybe also my ‘meal of art’ is lacking; I might be said to rarely tinker with all kinds of Canva’s own features.
Still relying on the 'template template' feature, 'stsetelements,' and 'groundground,' I use Canva as the 'cover' post I just created. The initial settings I made were with English so that every keyword I chose would use the English language.
Why is it necessary to make a 'cover' for each post?
'Cover posts will make it easier for others to recognize the points we will convey, especially when we share on social media.
Among friends, you can compare which one is better than the following two examples of posts!
In
my opinion, additional text makes it easier for readers on social media
to recognize the points that we want to be conveyed in our posts.
To facilitate posting on social media, I always use ‘installed Instagram’ to fit the square size (1080 x 1080 px) so that it is not cut when uploaded to Instagram. Unfortunately, because it is free, I cannot change the size (resize) when I have already made a design because this feature is specifically for Canva Premium (Canva Pro).
So Menong's friends should be more thorough in determining the size at the time of starting to make designs.
Other
things I got from Canva, we can download in various file types such as
PNG, JPEG, PDF, GIF, or others. I myself like GIFs, so I often choose
elements in the form of videos or animations because they can move
funny.
The
street article became the article I write the most because it is
themed on nature. The Canva feature that I use most often is the Element feature with the keywords 'tree,' 'leaves,' 'trunk,' and 'flower.'
It’s just that, because the Canva account I use is still free, templates or elements that I can choose without a crown mark are still limited. This is because the experience of using Canva for Education for blogging has not been known before.
Of course it can; it's just that in the download will be listed the watermark Canva, which makes aesthetics and ethics disturbed.
This city-owned feature will be accessible if we use Canva Pro, aka the paid version. Make sure you use Canva Pro Legal!
Canva For Education
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to meet with some teachers in Pasuruan Regency, East Java. That day we were talking about infographics, one of them by using Canva. One of the teachers gave information that I used Canva for Education to access more complete features.
Since
I am just an ordinary teacher, not a teacher, he suggested I try to
complete the data by uploading the certificate of the training source
that I have obtained as proof I deserve access to Canva for Education. Thankfully, this way worked. And I feel 'surprise' with the many features I can access.
I sometimes even have no need to bother making an infographic, for example, making an infographic about "Sample Nature." Among friends can search it directly in the "template" feature with the keyword 'nature'.
Among friends, we can change the text according to the writing we want.
We can also turn keyword searches into Indonesian by changing the language settings.
This Canva for Education feature is similar to the features in Canva Pro, including resizing
and templates/elements that originally symbolized 'cities.' So it can be
customized for Instagram posts, reels, blogs, YouTube, or others.
Since the blog niche is diverse, I also do not limit the elements that I often use. Elements with the keyword 'nature' for the label 'balling' and 'the Moslem couple' for the label 'half separuh diendien' are still my favorite choices.
It turns out that you're using Canva for fun blogging, huh? Especially with the
experience of using Canva for education and for blogging, it brought me to meet
many friends of bloggers. I hope I can be a good blogger like the
coaches. Aamiin.
