Cheap streets in Jakarta Part 1

At the end of 2024, Zauji and I agreed to schedule a special schedule for cheap sightseeing in Jakarta. Zauji made a plan according to my request that has not been realized for a long time.

Jakarta

Maybe I am one of the new Indonesian citizens walking around in the beloved capital twice. I never went to Jakarta because there were not many close relatives who lived there.

The first time with the company of fellow officers, we visited Dufan and Ancol. The second time we got an assignment at a hotel that was only about 15 minutes away from Monas Square. Because we did not have much free time, we took the time to stop by in the morning, at exactly 06.00 WIB, when Monas had just opened. And of course we only had time to take pictures in the court.

After getting married, I whined, asking Zauji to take me on a cheap trip to Jakarta. For a long time, we decided that for one of the events at the end of 2024, we will spend it by realizing one of my dreams. Qodarullah, I received an invitation to activities in Jakarta in mid-December 2024 that allowed us to save money, especially for transportation costs.

Initially we would start by visiting the family of Zauji's mother in the Kemayoran area. But this plan we changed, with the starting point approaching the place of activity. We agreed to use Bandung-Jakarta travel with the destination of the Senayan area and departed at dawn.

And it turns out that this final pool of travelers is in Plaza Senayan Mall, which is adjacent to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, or Ministry of Education (formerly the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Kemdikbudristek).

We also walked to the hotel where the activity was and found the main entrance of the Ministry of Education and Culture. I think I’m very happy because I can see firsthand one of the ministry offices that I usually only see on TV. And without me knowing, it turns out that the back door of this Ministry of Education is right next to the travel where we went down earlier. And not far from there is the main stadium, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).

Zauji himself had been browsing around our destination and how we got there. In front of the Ministry of Education, Zauji marked the nearest Transjakarta stop. Zauji has prepared two e-money cards that we will use.

After getting married, my chance to walk around in a new place with more confidence is indeed wide open. We used to rely on online transportation to go everywhere, and of course, the costs incurred are quite large.

Zauji diligently learned something new that is useful to me, which includes this gaptek. I still remember the first time we tried KRL (Electric Rail Railway). At that time we were on our way from Sukabumi to Bekasi; unfortunately, there was no direct transportation. Zauji took me on the Pangrango train from Sukabumi station to Bogor station and then proceeded with KRL from Bogor station to Bekasi station.

This first attempt was successful in making us addicted to trying other routes, such as Depok-Ragunan (yup, as long as I have never been to the Ragunan Animals). Alhamdulillah, Hotel Savero Depok is located not far from Pondok China station. Next, we always use KRL for cheap sightseeing in Jakarta and around Jabodetabek.

Transjakarta

After leaving the bag and suitcase at the hotel reception because the check-in time was still long, we rushed back to the Senayan stop. To be honest, I was amazed by the super wide, clean, and free from street vendors highway that seemed to be quiet because the time showed 11.00 WIB, a long pedestrian bridge, a comfortable Jakarta trans stop with cool technology, and society (except me) seems to be used to everything.

We took the time to buy a little at the seller who was stuck near the bridge crossing. The price is Rp. 5,000 for one serving; the price is enough for the size of a large city.

Everyone is required to use their respective cards, and the cards for tap-in must be the same as tap-out. Because it was the first time, after tapping in the card at the gate of the busway bus corridor, we did not immediately step in, and as a result, the gate was locked back and Zauji was left outside. Despite the embarrassment, I asked the officer to help Zauji come in. Ticket price: Rp. 3,500 per person. Cheap, isn't it? 😍

Transjakarta Stop

Our first goal was the Istiqlal Mosque (again, because I’ve never been there). Officers directed us to take the Juanda destination route. We don't know if the seats of men and women were separated. At first we both sat together, but the officer reprimanded us so that Zauji moved to the back.

Transjakarta

The condition of the Transjakarta bus is not much different from Trans Metro Pasundan in Bandung, Trans Jogja in Yogyakarta, and Trans Pakuan in Bogor. Conditions are convenient with automatic entrances and exits. I myself observed the situation to find out through which door it came down later.

We arrived at the Juanda stop and tapped out successfully and immediately slid towards the Istiqlal Mosque, which is only 400 m away from the stop. Still at the stop, I was tempted to buy packaged tea because the weather in Jakarta was hot. It feels like cheap walks in Jakarta are starting to feel exciting.
