One
of the places that I wanted to visit was one of the traditional
villages in West Java. Alhamdulillah, towards the end of October 2023, I
and Zauji got a chance to greet the uniqueness of the village of
Naga Tasikmalaya.
Accur in Accursement Near the Dragon Village
This
time we chose an afternoon trip using local travel to Bandung-Singaparna, the capital of Tasikmalaya Regency. We consider this option because we only arrived in Bandung at 6 a.m. after the trip via train
from Semarang. At least we still have time to rest and pack before
continuing the journey to Singapore.
Thank God
we found a trip that was willing to pick us up at home and take us to
the hotel. Travel time reaches less than 3 hours with medium speed.
Menong friends can also choose the official travel destination of
Tasikmalaya City and be escorted to the Kampung Naga area for an
additional cost.
For information, travel
Aragon Tasikmalaya to Bandung for Rp. 120,000 plus the cost of the invitation
to Singaparna (Hotel Al Hambra, Rp. 40,000) and be escorted to the house
(Rp. 15,000–Rp. 35,000 depending on the area).
Menong's friends can rent a guest house in the parking area of Kampung Naga. The room rented is on the 2nd floor at a price of Rp. 2,000,000 only (5 bedrooms and a shared bathroom equipped with a spacious living room to accommodate guests). The owner of the guest house,
who lives on the one floor that doubles as the stall, comes from Kampung
Naga. Tenants can at the same time order food for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. The guest house is clean and comfortable to live in. In
addition to the stalls, the minimarket is also available 500 m of
kurleb outside the gate of Kampung Naga.
Menong
friends can also stay in Kampung Naga as long as they have received
permission from Kuncen or the Chairman of In-Indital Village. For the
record, the Dragon Village is not electric. The bathroom or
toilet, is located outside the residential area so that Menong's friends
should consider it well (This is one of the reasons I refused Zauji's
invitation to stay here 😞).
Even so, the
internet signal is still very affordable so that Menong’s friends do not
have to worry about losing information. It’s just that the strict rules
of Kampung Naga do not allow any noise, including from mobile phones or
other devices such as loudspeakers or music.
The
nearest hotel is next to gas station 3346401 Rancamaya, which is 14.6 km
from Kampung Naga. The hotel is only one month in operation, so the
building is relatively new (including the smell of paint and new
furniture). With a fancy design in Middle Eastern style, it feels like Al
Hambra could be an option. The deluxe chamber is copper (co-brown), while
the executive room is golden with the same area, 24 m². Each room is
equipped with a balcony. It's just that the balcony door can't be
opened for safety.
Breakfast and restaurant
menus have many variations, even though the taste is quite ordinary. Menong
friends can try goat meat kebuli rice (which I think has too strong an aroma), ketupat singaparna, or soto lake.
Hotel employees are also friendly to guests. Unfortunately, the hotel rate is fairly expensive (kurleb at least Rp. 800,000 for a deluxe room with a twin bed and breakfast). Menong friends can order via the Blue application or contact the marketing party in order to get a discount.
Location of Kampung Naga
It
is said that the Dragon Village was founded by the devotion of Dalem
Singaparna, who came from the Kingdom of Galuh. Kampung Naga is located
right on Jalan Raya Garut—Tasikmalaya, Neglasari Village of Salawu
District, Tasikmalaya Regency. From the direction of Bandung, Kampung
Naga is easier to reach through Garut by bus or private vehicle.
Public transport or online ojek is available from the direction of
Singapore. I myself use the online Ojek, which takes25 minutes
from Hotel Al Hambra.
Kampung
Naga is in the valley through which the Ciwulan River is watered in
Mount Cikuray, located in Garut. Mount Cikuray itself is one of the
mountains that surround Situ Bagendit, a situ, or lake, in Garut that we visited in 2022.
The
location of Kampung Naga is right on Jalan Raya Garut—Tasikmalaya.
Menong's friend should go down 414 steps (some also say 335 or 439
steps) with a slope of 45 degrees. Menong's friends do not need to
worry; the stairs are made of stone times that are sturdy and not
slippery, so it is safe to go through. Just prepare the energy when
climbing home later, yes!
Rows
of trees, green rice fields, clear river water, and traditional houses are
enjoyed while still at the height of the stairs when walking down the
stairs to the village. The uniqueness of Kampung Naga Tasikmalaya is coupled with buildings with layouts, shapes, directions of the houses, house-making materials, and typical Sundanese village patterns that are still
in accordance with hereditary rules.
The
building in Kampung Naga was built in groups with empty space in the
middle of the village. The house building must face north or south, while
the mosque and village hall face east or west.
And amazingly, every few meters there is a trash can from Rattan so that the Kampung Naga area is always clean.
When arriving at the residential area, Menong’s friend will find a row of balongs
(colleges) that must be placed in the front of the village, including
latrines or toilets on it. In addition to the house, Menong's friends
can know leuit (place of storing rice), musyawarah bale or bale
patemon, saung lisung, kuncen house (addian head), mosque with showers
for washing and ablution, field, and square.

| Bathroom area outside the fence-bound settlement Related: Travel List In Bandung, Part 1 |
The
bathroom and jamh area are outside the settlement and bounded by bamboo
fences. At first I thought of refraining from urinating during the
Kampung Naga. But finally I dared to try to enter the toilet room that
is not completely roomed because the bottom is already made of cement.
Apparently,
the Jaman room in Kampung Naga had received help from an SOE. Although
it is above the fish pond with a bamboo base with a hole in the middle,
the condition of the jamban is not as 'horor' as I imagined. It seemed that because of the position of the water that continued to flow from the shower, it kept it clean.
Forests, prohibition
forests, and kramat forests are not far from the settlement. In the woods
in the village of Naga Tasikmalaya, it serves to maintain resources, balance,
and harmony of nature. No wonder if the rustling of the wind and
leaves, the chirping of birds, and the rustling of running water are still
attached to natural nuances. And the people of Kampung Naga are friendly enough to welcome us for two days of activity there. What's the story?
