Characteristics of Good Arowana Fish

Characteristics of Good Arowana Fish

During the pandemic, one of the businesses that Zauji runs is much in demand by customers. This business that has long been cultivated by Zauji is quite a positive response because arowana fish include fish that have their own market share. Because I often accompany Zauji, I often peek at the characteristics of good arowana fish.

The ancient fish that entered the family Osteoglossidae is known as Arowana. Arowana fish are spread in Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, and South America. This fish is known as the symbol of luck and prosperity. My late father used to have an Arowana Super Red fish that was always proud of every guest who comes to visit. Now Arwana at home is an entertainment for Zauji's mother.

The scales and shape of the mouth of the Arwana fish have a unique shape, with the bottom of the mouth that is like a sharp upwards. The length of a certain type of arowana can reach 3 meters. But in general, the length of the Arowana fish ranges from 50 cm.

Initially Zauji got fish from some people who resold the Arwana fish that he had long maintained. Sometimes we blusukan to the corner of Bandung Raya to meet COD with sellers. Finally, Zauji gets a wholesale link selling ornamental fish so that it can sell at competitive prices. Of the many types of Arwana fish, there are some that are favorites.

Types of Arowana Fish

Arowana Super Red (SR)

The fish with the Latin name Scleropages legendrei occupies the highest throne of Arowana because of the fantastic price. Throughout a career as an Arowana seller, Zauji rarely provides this fish because it requires large capital and a market share that is not included in the circle of Zauji customers, who are dominated by resellers and beginner hobbyists.

As I recall, the SR that Zauji had had a size of 24 cm, which was priced at Rp. 2.4 million. Honestly, for Zaji, who does not have a large capital, maintaining SR seems to be racing with the heart because of its high risk. The capital of one SR is comparable to several GR or even silver tails. The risk of death due to jumping, growing mold due to water and air conditions that rise and fall, or physical disability that is only known when arriving home.

Arwana Golden Red (GR)

Arowana GR ranks second that many Zauji customers are looking for. The price is lower than SR but also more 'prestige' than silver. Based on the scales, GR is divided into Golden Red High Back (HB), Golden Red Cross Back (Xback), and Indonesian Golden Arowana (RTG).

The difference between HG, XBack, and RTG can be observed in GR measuring > 20 cm based on the location on the level of the ring or lightning of the shiny-colored scales of the scales forming a ring.

In Arowana HB, the ring level only reaches the 5th level, while in XB, it reaches the 6th level or back. RTG has a golden color that only reaches the 4th or 5th rows calculated from the abdomen. In addition to scales, the color of the three is also different; HB has a darker body color with a neater scale pattern and a brighter and brighter colored RTG.

Until now, I am still not adept at distinguishing which GR is HG, XBack, or RTG.

Arowana Silver

This silver-colored Arwana is the choice of beginner Arowana lovers. In addition to easy maintenance, the price is friendly in the pocket. If Menong’s friends are interested in maintaining Arowana, start from the type of silver with a minimum size of 10 cm.

Arowana Banjar

Arwana Banjar has a prominent feature in the form of orange-colored fins and yellowish tails. One time Zauji had obtained an Arwana Banjar measuring almost 50 cm, which had been maintained annually and was forced to be sold by the previous owner because he could no longer take care of it. Its beautiful color and almost perfect body shape make this fish scramble. Not until a week at our house, Arwana Banjar changed hands.

Arowana Jardini is one type of Arwana that I find difficult to recognize. This fish from Australia and Papua has a golden yellow color.

Characteristics of Quality Arwana

In addition to berkebun-to-gardening, keeping Arowana fish is a new hobby during the pandemic. Known as a type of fish that is priced at a fairly high price, of course Zauji must know the characteristics of a good arowana fish so that it has a high selling price. What characteristics should be considered when choosing an arowana fish?

Body Form

A good arowana fish anatomy is a spoon-shaped head, the length and width of the proportional body, swimming aggressively, long (dangling) fins, and wide-tailed openings.

Shape the body with a straight back (not bent or deformed). One of the deformed body shapes is the position of the nungging fish; the tail part is on top. Zauji himself once got an Arwana SR fish with the shape of the body nudging. We knew this condition when we got home.

Unfortunately, the seller was not honest with us because, when shown the contents of the aquarium water, only 1/3 was present so that the fish swim flatly. One of the tips that Menong friends can do when monitoring the seller is to keep the contents of the aquarium water close to full to see the movement of the shape of the body of the fish when swimming. The fishtail will always be on top so that the back is not straight parallel to the surface of the water.

Some argue the shape of the body of the nungging is due to conditions at the time of packing, which is not perfect, but most argue the shape of the body of the nungging is due to abnormalities of the body structure of the fish from birth or the rupture of swimming bubbles.

The shape of the body of Ninging is very difficult to repair. And of course, the price of Arowana fish with the shape of the body of the nunging will slide down.

Intert scales

Make sure there are no damaged scales, defects, or wounds. The condition of the scales will be easily observed with the eyes directly. Although fish scales can grow back, the selling price of Arowana fish with damaged scales, defects, or wounds will fall.

Anger and Intgeny Tat.

Arowana fish is measured using body length in centimeters from the tip of the head to the tail. Sometimes the cm used in advertising differs between sellers and buyers. Do not forget to also ensure the condition of the shingle and tail of the Arowana fish chosen isintact and not torn. In some cases, the tail of the arowana can grow back, but it takes time, while the incomplete mark will not return to normal so as to reduce the quality, aesthetics, and selling price of the arowana.

No Musava or White Spots

Mussels or white spots will be visible. Mussels or white spots usually appear on the fin, scales, chest, tail, trestles, and eyes. Mud usually occurs because the aquarium water is dirty due to the buildup of leftover feed and fish feces. Mud often appears when the water is less warm. Mud can be overcome by giving medicine or ketapang leaves.

Once a spot appeared on the tail of the Arwana GR fish. Since Zauji couldn’t bear to dissect himself, he finally asked for the help of a friend. Although it doesn’t interfere with activity, the presence of white spots lowers the aesthetics of the fish.

Fins

Normal fins look wide and expand when swimming. The front fins are long and not bent. Normal fins will make Arwana fish swim naughtily. The fins on the back and anus will bloom when the fish swims.

Normal Eyes, aka Not Droopy Eyes

Drop eye is a condition of the eyes of the Arowana fish that go down and cloudy. In addition to bacterial and water infections. Drop eye can cause the fish to become less active and lazy to move. With visual disturbances, of course, fish will be difficult to catch. Of course this is a challenge if Menong's friends want to recognize the characteristics of good Arowana fish.

DEs in SR are often caused by lighting during the tanning process (the process to change the color of SR to be reddish with the help of UV lamps). Naturally, the fish will feel glare when the position of the UV lamp is above so that the reflex will look down.

In addition to surgery, which is very rarely done, drop eye can only be prevented by avoiding the cause. Drop eye can cause the quality of the fish to decrease so that the price is lower than it should be. Although not yet recognized 100% of the time, there are tips from fellow fishermen to restore the eyes of the DE. Keep some colorful plastic balls. The floating ball will force the fish to look upwards continuously.

Arowana fish in the condition of DE is very often found. One of them is the Arwana fish that I saw when I visited Trikora Beach in Kab. Bintan, Riau Islands. In the hotel lobby, I found the biggest Arwana fish I've ever seen (whose photo I've deleted). Apparently the hotel has been keeping this fish for a dozen years. Unfortunately, these two beautiful fish eyes are in the condition of the DE.

The position of the aquarium is too high, with the surface of the aquarium water that is almost higher than the position of the person, causing the fish to often look down towards the guest.

With the experience of accompanying Zauji, I also conveyed the characteristics of good Arowana fish on the hotel. I also share how to care for arowana fish to get big quickly with employees who may have arowana fish elsewhere. How are Menong's friends interested in maintaining this dragonfish?
