See My Garden
In addition to bringing a lot of grief, the Covid-19pandemic brought a lot of blessings for some. When lockdown is enforced, there are certainly not many activities that we can do other than staying at home. Working from home or WFH, brings other positive things to me and my family.
On the sidelines to take Mother and Zauji back and forth to the hospital, I and Zauji also pursued a new hobby that we never imagined before. New hobbies and online shopping become powerful weapons to drive away saturation because they are not allowed to travel.
Our house, actually the house of Mother Zauji, is located on a railway line in a densely populated area. There is no room for gardening because the land is narrow and limited. A patch of land across from the house just on the outskirts has long been asked for by Zauji's mother for permission to plant various flowers and rhizomes. Roses planted by Mother Zauji are decades old, always flowering beautifully all the time and are often asked about by people passing by.
Ginseng Java, betel, tomatoes, pandan, and various kitchen spices such as lemongrass, ginger, red ginger, and galangal, including panpang and key meeting, which are already rarely found in the market. Zaji's mother may include a few people who rarely take chemical drugs when sick.
When today we know infused water, rhizomes have long been practiced by Zauji's mother to relieve pain. Often, neighbors around ask for this herb as a traditional medicine during childbirth or other times.

During WFH, I practiced my own gardening using used mineral water bottles. Although hydroponics is a favorite of many people, based on experience, hydroponics is less suitable for limited land because it requires enough space to store a series of tools.
I buy my seeds online, from expensive prices (because I don’t know the price) to cheap or free. Gardening activities on this terrace become entertainment in themselves and become a means of greeting neighbors who are passing by.
To be honest, I almost never bought this mineral water. As a boarding boy (other in the city), I was a collector of other former mineral bottles of boarding houses and then took them home at the weekend. This habit is often protested by Zauji because when it comes from out of town, my tote increases with a large crate of bottles of used mineral water measuring 1.5 L. 😁
I also began to know the difference between seedlings and seeds, sealing techniques and cuttings, pruning, how to eradicate pests, how to fertilize, and other terms. Some friends willingly gave me seeds or plant seedlings. Unfortunately the location in a common area makes some plants that I treat 'change hands' without my permission. Some were removed from the ground. Sadly,
Spinach, kale, kailan, pakcoy, and other green vegetables are the top choice for beginners like me. The seeds are planted in a wide container but not too deep and stored in a place that is not too exposed to sunlight.
In one container we can sow a lot of seeds with a distance that is not too close. Flutter regularly but do not get too wet to avoid the seeds becoming rotten. In general, the seeds will grow within 7 days (depending on the type of plant, yes). Allow until the leaves appear with 4 or 5 petals before moving to a larger pot.
Of the many seeds, the flowers of the eagle and the Arabiad bidara become the most difficult plants to sow. Of the seeds, only 1 or 2 managed to grow until successfully transferred to a larger pot.
Until now, the bovine flowers that I planted had been ripe from 2 seeds that were successfully sown. Some I gave to my friends. Unfortunately, the Arab bidara stored on the roadside of the rail was also lost to be taken by 'embliest hands.'
Edible Flower
I also attended an online gardening class that is fronted by various communities. This is where I know edible flowers, which I have seen before on the Instagram homepage.
As the name implies, these flowers can be eaten without the need to be processed first. Edible flowers are actually a common thing found in Indonesian dishes, such as turi flowers in East Javanese pecels, pumpkin flowers, papaya flowers, kecombrang or honje for pecel and rujak and others. Edible flowers are widely served in the form of lalapan, stir-scissors, or tea because they are more durable.
Now edible flowers are widely used for modern dishes such as puddings, cakes, or drinks. Even the business of exporting edible flowers has been much in demand and developed by many people. One edible flower petalvalued at Rp. 1,500 is certainly amazing.
Of course, not all arbitrary flowers can be claimed as edible flowers. The first thing we do is, of course, scientifically study the type of flower, determine whether the flower is toxic or safe for consumption, make sure the flowers are free of pesticides, and choose clean and fresh flowers. And make sure the Menong friend has no allergies to certain types of flowers.
Edible flowers that we can find in our environment include roses and jasmine (nah, this is certainly unimaginable because it used to be known more towards the clinic; yes, anyone can consume it), shoe flowers, lilies, gladioli, eagles, and many others.
Flowers of Eagles
Now the edible flower began to penetrate many circles because it was felt its benefits to maintain health.
The eagle flower is one of the rising edible flowers in the time of the Covid-19pandemic. It is predicted to have many properties; bouquets are widely recommended as a complement to the diet program because it is ‘consistent’ to help lose weight so that it becomes one of the favorite edible flowers of mothers.
Until now I have not found a reference that states that the flowers are good for eye health but logically, the content in the bouquet is what will help the body to be healthy.
Clitoria ternatea or a yellowish-blue bouquet with funnel-shaped petals and a butterfly-shaped crown. This plant grows vines. So Menong's friend, who intends to plant this beautiful flower, must condition the place so that the tendrils propagate without damaging other plants. I myself planted a bouquet adjacent to the rose tree so that the tendrils must be trimmed often so as not to propagate far.
The eagle flower itself contains anthocyanins, chemical compounds that produce a pigment (color) from red to blue that is abundant in many flowers, leaves, tubers, or fruits such as roses, eagles, dragon fruit, beetroot, purple eggplant, red spinach, purple sweet potato, and others. Menong's friends can remember it by identifying the purple color with anthocyanin.
Benefits of Telang Flowers
Anthocyanins are antioxidants so the benefits of bouquets for health are widely known. Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent and repair cell damage in the body. Antioxidants are often associated with free radicals.
Free radicals can be interpreted simply as molecules in the body that are unstable and very easy to react to. Free radicals can damage other molecules in the body.
Naturally, free radicals are formed in the body and play a role in chemical reactions in the body. But exposure to free radicals from outside the body, such as radiation, sunlight, pollutants, pesticides, cigarette smoke, and other compounds in excess and continuously, can cause cell damage.
1. Anti-cancer
2 Antidiabetes
3. Anti-inflammatory
4. Accelerate wound healing
5. Maintaining Healthy Skin and Hair
Antioxidants in the flowers are widely used as a skin and hair care ingredient in the form of moisturizer or serum.
In addition to the 5 benefits of the bouquet, the flowers also help cure asthma, relieve coughs, stimulate calorie burning while slowing the formation of fat cells so that it fits once to help lose weight, increase female fertility, and others.
This benefit can be a friend. Menong gets by brewing with hot water. 3-5 petals of the bouquet flower that has been washed. Leave it on for 10 - 15 minutes. Strass and serve. The taste and aroma are indeed 'flat,' like foliants or flowering in general.
I myself often serve this bouquet drink for Zauji, although he often comments on it being 'tastified as if given a drink for love.' 😀
Uniquely, this bouquet flower drink will change color to redness when we add orange or lemon juice.
Among friends, one can also dry the petals of the petals that have been washed to make them more durable and use them as tea. The flowers contain no caffeine, cholesterol, or fat, so it is safe to use as an herbal drink.
Although it comes from nature, Menong friends still have to consume it in reasonable amounts because bouquets can also cause side effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea when consumed in excessive amounts.
The benefits of this bouquet are that a friend, Menong, can get it easily because the eagle flower plant can thrive without difficult care. The main requirement is, of course, enough sunlight and water. Flowers are sometimes found in unexpected places such as by the roadside or in the courtyard of a gas station. And most importantly, make sure the flowers we consume are free from pesticides or other harmful ingredients.
